Toyota Crown Estate Update Adds Cheaper Estate G Grade

Toyota Crown Estate Update Adds Cheaper Estate G Grade

Toyota has given the Crown Estate its first update since launch, and the headline change is a much lower starting price. The revised model went on sale in Japan on November 2, 2026, with a new entry grade called Estate G, plug-in hybrid power for the mid-range Z grade, and more standard equipment across the line-up.

Key points

  • New entry grade: Estate G (hybrid) priced at ¥5,702,000 including tax, about ¥650,000 below the previous starting price
  • Plug-in hybrid for Z grade: the 2.5-liter PHEV system, previously offered mainly on the top RS grade, is now also available on the Z
  • More standard features: Toyota Premium Sound System and a digital key on RS and Z grades, and a cold-region package on all models
  • New colors: Neutral Black, plus an optional Black × Smoky Blue two-tone finish

Estate G: lower price, well equipped

The Crown Estate blends the raised ride height of an SUV with the cargo space of a station wagon. It measures 4,930 mm long, 1,880 mm wide and 1,625 mm tall. Before this update, prices ran from roughly ¥6.35 million to ¥8.9 million, so the new Estate G noticeably lowers the entry point.

Despite the lower price, the Estate G is not stripped out. Standard equipment includes 19-inch machined-finish alloy wheels, Bi-Beam LED headlamps with manual leveling, a hands-free power tailgate, black synthetic leather seats with front seat heaters, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a display audio screen that supports connected navigation.

Plug-in hybrid now on the Z grade

Buyers who want to drive more on electric power now have another choice. The Z grade can be ordered with the 2.5-liter plug-in hybrid system, which delivers a combined system output of 306 PS. It adds an EV/HV mode switch with a battery charge mode, rear seat heaters, and dual-zone automatic climate control with a heat pump.

Interior and design updates

On the RS and Z grades, the Toyota Premium Sound System, with 10 speakers and an 8-channel amplifier, is now standard, along with a digital key that lets a smartphone work as the car key. The RS grade gains a saddle-tan leather interior with a cloud-pattern design, plus a dimpled leather steering wheel and shift knob.

Toyota also plans to expand its TOYOTA UPGRADE FACTORY program around winter 2026. Planned items include a headrest with the Crown logo, a premium shift knob, and an audio upgrade package that brings earlier cars up to the latest sound-system specification.

Terms Explained

  • HEV / PHEV: a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) charges its battery while driving. A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) has a larger battery that can also be charged from an external power source, allowing longer driving on electric power alone.
  • Partial update: a mid-cycle improvement to an existing model, usually covering equipment, grades and colors rather than a full redesign.
  • Cold-region package: equipment that helps a vehicle cope with snow and low temperatures, such as stronger heating and de-icing features.
