Toyota’s Spanish division has officially unveiled the 2024 Yaris, bringing fresh upgrades to one of the brand’s most popular compact cars. Known as the Vitz in Japan, the Yaris originally debuted in 1999 and has gone through multiple generations and market-specific name changes. For 2024, it returns with notable improvements in performance, technology, and trim options.
The new Yaris keeps its familiar compact footprint, measuring 3,940 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width, and 1,500 mm in height. That makes it slightly larger than the Aygo X sold in Europe and the Passo in Japan, striking a balance between city-friendly maneuverability and everyday practicality.
A major highlight for the 2024 model is the addition of the GR SPORT trim, aimed at drivers who want a more athletic and engaging character. Toyota is also offering a Premier Edition, giving buyers a more upscale option within the Yaris lineup.
Under the hood, Toyota has upgraded the Yaris with a stronger hybrid powertrain. Based on the fourth-generation hybrid system, the new setup uses a larger and more capable electric motor/generator. Combined with a newly developed transaxle and both software and hardware revisions to the power control unit, the result is a meaningful boost in output.
Total system power rises from 116 hp to 130 hp, while torque increases from 141 Nm to 185 Nm. These gains improve real-world responsiveness, allowing the 2024 Yaris to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds and from 80 to 120 km/h in 7.5 seconds. The updated hybrid system is designed to deliver a livelier and more confident driving experience.
Toyota has also strengthened the Yaris in the safety department. The car now features the latest Toyota Safety Sense, bringing enhanced driver assistance and protection. Thanks to over-the-air updates, both safety and multimedia systems can continue to improve over time.
Among the upgraded safety functions are improved detection capabilities for vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcycles. The Pre-Collision System (PCS) can now identify a wider range of hazards, and Toyota has added an acceleration suppression function to help prevent unintended acceleration when a collision risk is present.
Further adding to its safety credentials are Proactive Driving Assist (PDA) and the Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS). On the technology side, every version of the new Yaris comes standard with Toyota Smart Connect, helping make the in-car experience more seamless and connected.
Inside, the Yaris embraces modern digital features with a standard 9-inch multimedia display and a digital key function that allows a smartphone to be used as the vehicle key.
Pricing for the 2024 Toyota Yaris starts at 22,300 euros (about 3.51 million yen), positioning it as an appealing option for buyers seeking an affordable but well-equipped compact car. The GR SPORT version starts at 28,050 euros (around 4.41 million yen), while the Premier Edition begins at 29,750 euros (about 4.68 million yen).
With stronger hybrid performance, improved safety systems, and expanded trim choices, the 2024 Toyota Yaris looks ready to make a strong impression in the compact hatchback segment. It combines efficiency, technology, and everyday usability in a package that should appeal to a broad range of drivers.
