GAIKINDO (Indonesia Automobile Manufacturers Association) Indonesia International Auto Show 2023 witnessed a spectacular unveiling by Nissan’s Indonesian subsidiary. The event, which spanned 11 days starting from August 10, 2023, featured some exciting additions to the Nissan family. The spotlight was on the new “Serena” and “Ariya” racing cars, but what really caught the attention was Nissan’s smallest SUV, the Magnite, a vehicle not available in Japan.

Meet the Magnite – Compact and Dynamic

The Magnite made its world debut in India on October 21, 2020, and it’s been making waves ever since. As a B-segment compact SUV, it strikes a perfect balance between style, power, and functionality. One look at the Magnite, and you’ll be drawn to its sleek, dynamic design. Standing at 3994mm long, 1758mm wide, and 1572mm high, it’s nearly identical in size to the Toyota Rise, a popular car in Japan.

Nissan has already introduced the Kicks in Japan in June 2020, but the Magnite takes compactness to the next level. While the Kicks measures 4290 mm in length, 1760 mm in width, and 1610 mm in height, the new Magnite is notably smaller, making it Nissan’s smallest SUV model.

Power and Performance

Under the hood, the Magnite packs a punch with a 1.0-liter inline 3-cylinder turbo engine, delivering a maximum output of 100 horsepower and a torque of 160 Nm. Drivers have the option to choose between a CVT transmission or a 5-speed manual transmission to suit their driving preferences. This impressive combination of power and efficiency makes the Magnite a compelling choice for SUV enthusiasts.

Affordable Luxury

Nissan has positioned the Magnite as an affordable yet luxurious SUV, with prices starting at 288 million rupiah (approximately 2.77 million yen). This competitive pricing, combined with its compact size and impressive features, is sure to attract attention in various markets.

Japan’s Potential Interest

Given the Magnite’s size and suitability for Japan’s road conditions, there’s a strong possibility of demand in the Japanese market. However, as of August 2023, there’s no official information regarding its introduction in Japan. At present, the Magnite remains an overseas exclusive model, leaving Japanese enthusiasts eagerly waiting for any potential updates on its availability in their home country.
