　The Jimny is a full-fledged 4WD model with a long history, with the first model appearing in 1970. With its compact body, ladder frame, and part-time 4WD system with an auxiliary transmission, it is renowned as a full-fledged four-wheel drive vehicle.

　The current model was introduced in 2018. It is now a popular model that is exported to Europe and other countries around the world.

　In Japan, the lineup includes the Jimny, a light four-wheel-drive vehicle with the features and driving performance of a full-fledged four-wheel-drive vehicle, and the Jimny Sierra, a compact four-wheel-drive vehicle equipped with a 1.5-liter engine.

　Overseas, the Japanese name of the Jimny Sierra has been used for the Jimny, but only the 3-door version was available worldwide.

　The new Jimny 5-door, which was unveiled for the first time in the world, is a new 5-door version with rear doors, and features special rear seats and interior design for the rear seats.

　Compared to the conventional 3-door model, the body size of the Jimny Sierra is 3550 mm (overall length) x 1645 mm (overall width) x 1730 mm (overall height), while that of the new Jimny 5-door is 3985 mm (overall length) x 1645 mm (overall width) x 1720 mm (overall height) (Indian specifications), indicating an overall length increase of 435 mm. 　The reasons given by users who answered “”Yes”” included “”I have been wanting to have one,”” “”I want to buy one,”” and “”I am waiting for it,”” indicating a large number of users who have been waiting for it.

　In addition, there were also comments from users who expected the five-door design to improve convenience, such as “”It looks cool and convenient,”” “”Five-door looks more user-friendly than three-door,”” and “”It has both driving ability and ease of use.

　Some of the comments included, “”I can use it for family use,”” and “”I have a child who uses the rear seat, so 5-door is convenient,”” from users who want to emphasize both convenience and drivability, even for family users.

　When asked about their “”thoughts on the new Suzuki Jimny 5-door”” in the aforementioned survey, many users expressed their expectations for its launch in Japan, saying, “”I’m waiting for it,”” “”I’ll definitely buy it when it goes on sale in Japan,”” and “”I want a 5-door in Japan, too.

　Some of them even said, “”I’ve been waiting for it for a long, long time.

　The detailed specifications of the new Jimny 5-door are expected to be revealed in the future, and there are high expectations for its launch in Japan.”

　How popular is the long-awaited new Jimny 5-door compared to the 3-door model? We asked in a survey.

The long-awaited new Suzuki “Jimny 5-door” has not yet been announced for introduction in Japan

　The Jimny series, which includes the light four-wheel drive vehicle Jimny, is a compact 4WD that is used in 194 countries and regions around the world for a wide range of purposes, from daily living to leisure activities. The current model is the fourth generation, launched in July 2018, but even as of 2023, its popularity has not waned, and it is in a state of “long delivery time” in which it is difficult to receive a car even if it is ordered.

　Among the Jimny series, the Jimny Sierra is equipped with a small car engine, and its body was enlarged to the size of a regular car with over fenders and other features.

　The new “Jimny 5-door” is a 5-door version of the Jimny Sierra.

　The overall length has been extended by 435 mm in order to add a rear door and expand the cargo space, and a special grille with chrome parts added to the five throttle grille has been installed to enhance the sense of luxury.

　As for driving performance, the approach angle is 36 degrees, the ramp breakover angle is 24 degrees, the departure angle is 50 degrees, and the minimum ground clearance is 210 m. The ramp breakover angle is slightly less than that of the 3-door model Jimny due to the extended body, but it is almost the same. The new Jimny 5-door is a new model with a 50-degree decoupling angle and a 210m minimum ground clearance.

　The new Jimny 5-door is such a new model, but despite the fact that the 3-door has been super-delivered, there are many people on social networking sites who are hoping for the introduction of the new model in Japan.

　So, we conducted a survey on social networking sites to find out which one they want compared to the 3-door.

　The questions are as follows.

“Which do you want, the new Suzuki Jimny 5-door or the Suzuki Jimny 3-door?”

In the survey, 90.6% of respondents answered the new Suzuki “Jimny 5-door. This shows that the new 5-door model is overwhelmingly popular.

　In the free response section of the survey, many respondents expressed their eagerness for the introduction of the 5-door model in Japan, such as “I had been considering purchasing a Jimny Sierra, but the fact that it only has 3 doors kept me from purchasing it,” and “I want to purchase the long-sought 5-door model no matter how long I have to wait.

　In addition, 3-door users also responded, “I love my Jimny Sierra as a private car, but I want a 5-door model because it is more convenient to use,” indicating that even 3-door users are eagerly waiting for the 5-door model.

The new Jimny 5-door model is currently available in the market.

　At present, there is no official announcement from Suzuki regarding the introduction of the new Jimny 5-door model in Japan, but we expect Suzuki to make a move, as there are many people who are eagerly awaiting the introduction of the new model.

　On the other hand, the launch of the 5-door model and its concentration of popularity may have a calming effect on demand for the 3-door model, resulting in earlier delivery and stabilization of used car prices, etc.

　The new Jimny 5-door has an overall length of 435 mm and a wheelbase of 340 mm longer than the previous 3-door model, but how has the usability of the rear seats and cargo area been improved?

The buzz is loud and clear! The 5-door version of the Suzuki “”Jimny”” unveiled on January 12, 2023! The car is scheduled to go on sale in India in 2023, but there is no word on its launch in Japan!

　The Jimny is Suzuki’s compact 4-wheel drive vehicle that has been in production for over 50 years since the first model appeared in 1970.

　Based on the Japanese version, which was built under the mini standard framework, a version with a larger engine displacement and other features has been released overseas as well, and has developed into a global model sold in more than 190 countries and regions around the world.

　The current model is the fourth generation, fully remodeled in July 2018. In addition to the light version of the Jimny, a smaller version, the Jimny Sierra, is available, sharing the same body frame but with enlarged fenders and a 1.5-liter engine.

　The body size of the Jimny is 3395 mm (length) x 1475 mm (width) x 1725 mm (height) and 2250 mm (wheelbase (distance between front and rear axles), while the Jimny Sierra is 3550 mm (length) x 1645 mm (width) x 1730 mm (height) and has a common wheelbase of 2250 mm. (All figures are for Japanese specifications).

　In January 2023, five years after its debut, a five-door version was born as a new addition to the lineup.

　The announced body size of the Indian-spec Jimny 5-door is 3985 mm (length) x 1645 mm (width) x 1720 mm (height) with a wheelbase of 2590 mm, which is 435 mm longer in length and 340 mm longer in wheelbase compared to the dimensions of the Jimny Sierra.

　However, the body size of the Japanese version indicates the dimensions from the front bumper to the rear bumper, and does not include the dimensions of the spare tire protruding from the back door.

　For reference, the overall length of the European-spec Jimny (3-door, including rear tires) is 3,645 mm, and compared to this, the overall length difference between the 5-door version is 340 mm, exactly the same as the difference in wheelbase.

　Similarly, the overall length of the new Indian-spec Jimny 5-door (3985 mm) includes the overhang of the tires.

　Therefore, it is expected that the 340mm increase in wheelbase is used to expand the rear seat legroom and cargo space.

　Suzuki explains that the rear seats are exclusive to the 5-door model, and there is a possibility that the size, shape, and specifications of the seats may differ from those of the 3-door model.

　However, since the width of the car itself has not changed, it is believed that the rear seats will seat two people, just like the regular Jimny.

　Current Jimny users who enjoy outdoor leisure activities use the roof carrier or fold the rear seats forward to accommodate cargo that cannot fit in the compact cargo space.

　With the new Jimny 5-door, it is likely to be possible to secure the rear seats and carry four adults while also loading cargo.

　The Japanese specifications of Jimny and Jimny Sierra are equipped with a “”stain-resistant type luggage floor”” (luggage box), which makes the cargo area flat when the rear seats are folded forward.

　By folding the front seats backward and folding down the headrests to integrate the rear seats with the floor, a full flat cargo space is created.

　Although the Jimmy 3-door (Jimmy Sierra) is very compact with an overall length of only 3.5 meters, it is long enough for two adults to stay overnight in the car.

　If the same trick is possible with the new Jimny 5-door, it will provide even more room for overnight stay.

　However, the Indian version announced this time is not equipped with a luggage box, so when the rear seats are folded down, there is a gap between the luggage compartment and the cargo area.

　As of January 2023, there has been no official announcement as to whether or not the model will be launched in Japan, but we expect that the Japanese version will have similar features.
