The current model is the fifth generation, which was introduced in 2019. Toyota Estima: Once Revolutionary Minivan, Now Faces Dark Clouds with 90% Sales Plunge!

The Mysterious Disappearance of Toyota’s “Original Luxury Minivan” – The Story of the Estima
Toyota, a renowned automaker known for its innovation, has seen numerous successes in the automobile industry. However, amidst its triumphs, there lies a tale of a beloved minivan that eventually faded into oblivion – the Toyota Estima. The Estima, considered the original luxury minivan, once captured the hearts of drivers with its unique design and spacious interior. So, what led to the disappearance of this pioneering vehicle from the market?

In 1990, Toyota unleashed the first-generation Estima, a bold departure from traditional minivans. Instead, it presented itself as a “new luxury car” with its strikingly smooth and rounded egg-shaped body. Nicknamed the “genius egg,” the Estima stood out due to its rare underfloor midship layout. This innovative design placed the engine sideways at a 75-degree angle, while the front tires were positioned in front of the driver’s seat. As a result, the midship layout achieved an impressively spacious interior, a comfortable ride, and remarkable quietness, elevating the minivan experience to unprecedented heights.

Despite its higher price point, around 3 million yen at the time, the first-generation Estima garnered immense popularity and quickly became one of Japan’s representative minivans. Building on its success, Toyota introduced the Estima Lucida/Emina in 1992. These models, smaller in size, became known as the “child Estima” due to their affordability, priced approximately 1 million yen cheaper than the original Estima. The Lucida and Emina achieved significant success, further solidifying the Estima’s position as a standard minivan model.

With the turn of the millennium, Toyota embarked on a full model change for the Estima, giving rise to the second-generation Estima in 2000. The company also introduced the “Estima Hybrid,” equipped with a cutting-edge hybrid system, offering both powerful acceleration and improved fuel consumption. The future looked bright for the Estima, and its popularity seemed destined to soar.

However, dark clouds began to gather over the Estima’s fate when Toyota introduced another upscale minivan under the same brand in 2002 – the “Alphard.” Based on the second-generation Estima’s framework, the Alphard boasted a larger body and a luxurious, spacious interior. It featured a more “powerful” design, clearly distinguishing it from the Estima’s gentle-looking front mask. Despite the competition, many loyal Estima fans persisted, but a crucial turning point was approaching for both models.

In 2006, Toyota launched the third-generation Estima and followed up with the second-generation Alphard in 2008. The Alphard’s “stiff” front mask appealed to a broad audience, leading to an increase in sales. On the other hand, the Estima’s reasonable pricing made it challenging to compete with the Alphard and Vellfire, and the number of Estima sales began to decline significantly. By the first half of 2019, the monthly average of registered Estima units plummeted to a mere 791, representing less than 10% of the combined Alphard and Vellfire sales.

As the shadows grew darker, the Estima’s role came to an end in October 2019, and the vehicle disappeared from the market without undergoing a model change. Though the Estima had once carved its name in automotive history, the shifting landscape of the automobile industry played a significant role in its fate.

Fast forward to 2023, Toyota continues to innovate, releasing the new luxury minivans “Alphard” and “Vellfire,” along with the upcoming “LM” under the Lexus brand. These new offerings are replete with luxurious exteriors, powerful engines, and opulent interiors, capturing the attention of automotive enthusiasts.

While the Estima may have vanished from the scene, the automotive landscape has changed dramatically, providing potential opportunities for new and improved models. As the market evolves, who knows if a modern, high-tech reincarnation of the “original luxury minivan” may find its way back into the hearts of drivers once more, solidifying its place as an upper-class minivan for the ages. Only time will tell what Toyota has in store for its minivan lineup.

Audi’s strongest electric SUV “RS Q6 e-tron” has 600 horsepower ? The first scoop of a real car .

“Audi’s most powerful electric SUV, the RS Q6 e-tron, has 600 hp! First Scoop on the Real Car Friday, April 1, 2022, 7:00 p.m.
Audi RS Q6 e-tron Prototype (Scoop photo)

Audi is currently developing the Q6 e-tron mid-size electric crossover SUV, and for the first time, the cameras of the scoop site Spyder7 have captured a production prototype of the RS Q6 e-tron, which will be set at the top of the line.

The prototype captured in Scandinavia has its entire body wrapped in camouflage. It is similar to the base model Q6 e-tron we have captured so far, with its distinctive “”two-stage”” split headlights on the front end, but a closer look reveals a more aggressive front bumper, larger diameter wheels, red brake calipers, and larger brakes. It is clear that this is a high-performance model.

The production version of the Q6 e-tron will be one of the first VW Group models to use the “”PPE”” platform, which was jointly developed with Porsche, and will share many components with the next-generation Porsche Macan. This architecture will support 350 kWh charging, air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and torque vectoring, which the “”MEB”” cannot employ.

The RS version features dual front and rear motors that are more powerful and torquey. It has a stiffer suspension, lighter wheels, and grippy tires. It is equipped with regenerative braking and is rumored to have a maximum output of over 600 hp. The base model, which is available with a choice of single or dual motors, is believed to have a maximum output of 476 hp, and considering that the Q4 e-tron currently on sale has a maximum of 168 hp with a single motor and 295 hp with dual motors, it is easy to see how powerful the RS Q6 e-tron is. The “”Mazda2″” is the first of its kind in the world.

The Q6 e-tron is expected to debut in late 2022, while the RS Q6 e-tron, the most powerful model, is likely around late 2023.””Audi’s most powerful electric SUV, the RS Q6 e-tron, has 600 hp! First Scoop on the Real Car Friday, April 1, 2022, 7:00 p.m.

Toyota Prius Dominates with 3rd Consecutive Victory as Japan’s Car of the Year

In a triumphant moment for hybrid vehicle enthusiasts, the Toyota Prius has once again claimed the coveted title of “Japan Car of the Year.” This marks the third time in 14 years that the pioneering hybrid vehicle has received this prestigious award, solidifying its position as a trailblazer in the automotive industry.

The Prius, which made its debut in 1997, was the first hybrid vehicle to hit the market, revolutionizing the automotive landscape. The first-generation model earned the “1997-1998 Japan Car of the Year” title, and the third-generation Prius, introduced in 2009, secured the “2009-2010 Japan Car of the Year” accolade. Now, with its fifth-generation model, the Prius has once again clinched the top spot as the “Car of the Year.”

The executive committee of the Japan Car of the Year praised the Prius for its groundbreaking advancements in hybrid technology. The committee noted that the Prius has transitioned into a new phase with its fifth generation, moving beyond being merely a symbol of hybrid innovation. The development team’s passion and commitment to creating a beloved vehicle were highlighted, as they aimed not only for a clean car but also for one that would be cherished by drivers.

A notable transformation in the Prius’s design has been observed, departing from the previous emphasis on aerodynamic performance. The latest model showcases a stylish monoform design, with a slightly inferior Cd value compared to its predecessor. However, by reducing the frontal projected area, the Prius has successfully maintained the CdA value at the same level as the conventional model.

Critics and enthusiasts alike have applauded the Prius for its lower center of gravity and longer wheelbase, contributing to a significant improvement in dynamic performance. The result is the most agile and accurate Prius to date, providing a sporty driving experience that sets it apart from its predecessors.

In addition to the Toyota Prius winning the “Japan Car of the Year” award, other notable recognitions were bestowed upon outstanding vehicles. The Import Car of the Year went to the BMW X1, the Design Car of the Year was awarded to the Mitsubishi Delica Mini, and the Technology Car of the Year went to the Nissan Serena.

The top 10 cars of the 2023-2024 Japan Car of the Year were also announced, featuring a diverse selection of vehicles, including the Subaru Crosstrek, Toyota Alphard/Vellfire, Nissan Serena, and Honda ZR-V, among others.

The Toyota Prius’s latest triumph reinforces its position as a leader in hybrid technology and a beloved choice among environmentally-conscious drivers, marking another milestone in its illustrious history.
