“Nissan’s new XTRAIL, the world’s first turbo + e-POWER is smooth and powerful! Test Drive
Tuesday, September 13, 18:10Why was the Japanese version introduced later than the U.S. version?
The new xtrail (Rogue in North America) was announced in the U.S. market in the fall of 2020, while the Japanese version finally went on sale in July 2022.Back to its roots with a square body! See 36 photos of the new XTRAIL with tough equipment and enhanced quality.
Why was the launch of the XTRAIL in Japan much later than in the U.S.?
Unlike the U.S., where fuel economy regulations are less stringent, Japan’s CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) is so strict that “”it cannot be cleared with a normal engine,”” so when developing the Japanese version, the VC Turbo (variable compression ratio engine) with its overwhelmingly superior thermal efficiency and Nissan’s e-POWER hybrid system Nissan’s hybrid The e-POWER system is installed.
Tough gear and high quality coexist in Nissan’s new xtrail.
Conversely, the adoption of the VC Turbo and e-POWER as power units is a major feature of the new xtrail. Incidentally, this power unit is said to be a world first.
Rather than explain the detailed mechanism, I would like to introduce the sensation of driving the new XTRAIL.
When the driver selects D range and starts driving, the on-board lithium battery activates the motors mounted on the front and rear wheels, and the vehicle runs. 100% electric vehicle to start with. However, the batteries are small and quickly deplete.
After a while, the VC Turbo starts using the generator as a motor. There is no “”whoosh”” shock at all when starting with the cellular motor. Since the car is already moving, it is so quiet and smooth that the driver does not notice that the engine has started.
When the engine starts, it drives a generator to generate electricity. That electricity is used to turn the running motor and accelerate the car. No transmission! And no “”slippery”” feeling like a CVT!
During gentle driving with little acceleration, the VC turbo is operated at optimum fuel efficiency (high compression ratio). Furthermore, the smaller displacement 1.5-liter engine is mounted in the XTRAIL’s body, which is normally equipped with a 2.5-liter engine, resulting in extremely low vibration and noise.
When driving the new XTRAIL around town or on ordinary roads with flowing traffic, it is so gentle that one forgets that it is equipped with an engine. It is comfortable.
From that state, I want you to think that you stepped on the accelerator pedal. Immediately after stepping on the accelerator pedal, the car generates 60 horsepower plus α from the lithium battery and drives on. For moderate acceleration, the car responds instantly when the accelerator pedal is depressed, giving it the feel of an electric car.
This is enough to cover acceleration in town. It is even more responsive than Toyota’s hybrid cars. I think this is the e-POWER’s strong point.
After a slight delay, the engine starts generating electricity to power the generator, and full-fledged acceleration begins.
The maximum system output of the new xtrail is 204ps (engine 144ps + battery 60ps), so you can see the dynamic performance of a car with a 2.5 to 3 liter engine.
In this condition, the VC turbo has a low compression ratio, making it a powerful and efficient turbocharger.
In any case, it is definitely a great power unit that is smooth, drivable, and powerful.
For reference, practical fuel economy is around 16 km/L in normal city driving. In congested city traffic, fuel economy of around 14 km/L can be expected.
If you have a chance to test drive the new xtrail, please consider that the VC Turbo + e-POWER delivers high fuel economy, quiet, powerful, and smooth driving.

Ride comfort… …Passable for an SUV with room to spare!
How about the body and suspension of the new XTRAIL? Here too, as with the power unit, “”quiet and smooth”” is the goal.Nissan’s new xtrail
There are two major points. When you turn the steering wheel, you will feel “”something good! feeling when you turn the steering wheel.
This is due to the adoption of a costly double pinion steering system. This steering system is naturally linear, so the car drives straight on highways and does not get dizzy on curves.
The rigidity of the suspension mountings allows the vehicle to move well.
If you ask me if it scores a perfect 100, it rattles a bit on rough surfaces, but if I were to rate it as a comfortable ride for an SUV in this class, I would give it a very comfortable score.

Toyota’s urban SUV Harrier now comes in a striking red color
Toyota’s urban SUV “Harrier” now comes in a striking red color, but some may find the bold style too aggressive. The Harrier, which first debuted in 1997, is known for its refined urban design and luxurious driving experience. However, Toyota has also released limited edition custom versions of the Harrier, such as the “Harrier Zagato” which features a wild and unique design created in collaboration with Italian design firm Zagato. The design concept, named “Italian Rocket,” includes wide and low bodywork, custom aerodynamic parts, over fenders, and a lowered suspension. The Harrier has been a trailblazer in the SUV market, inspiring similar models from other manufacturers. The custom Harrier models are an innovative approach to promoting new car releases and attracting attention to the brand.
Toyota’s urban SUV, the Harrier, has a striking red color for the second-generation limited edition Harrier Zagato. The development concept for the Harrier Zagato was “the shine of soul-stirring design – ART OF DESIRE.” The styling kit, which incorporates a 20mm length and 45mm width expansion, creates a wild image. Toyota C-HR wows the world with the 10,000th milestone of the sensational Prologue reveal
Toyota unveils the world premiere of the new C-HR Prologue! HV & PHEV lineup with hammerhead face! Aggressive design unveiled in Europe! Coming within a few years? Toyota unveils the world premiere of the new C-HR’s prologue design! On December 5, 2022, Toyota’s European subsidiary (Toyota Motor Europe) unveiled the world premiere of the C-HR prologue, which will be the next-generation C-HR. This is the next generation “”C-HR””! Aggressive design “”Hammerhead”” adopted! See the actual car coming within a few years!
This is cool! The new “”C-HR prologue,”” a concept model of the next-generation “”C-HR”” unveiled for the first time in the world by Toyota Europe. At the 2014 Paris Motor Show, Toyota announced the C-HR Concept, signaling its intention to launch a new vehicle genre.A little more than two years later, the concept has been introduced as the C-HR, a new car in the C-segment.
In 2022, the challenge for the C-HR was to find a way to take the C-HR’s characteristics of boldness, provocation, and fun to an even higher level. To achieve this goal, Toyota created the all-new C-HR Prologue, which has now been unveiled. The character lines of the C-HR PROLOG represent a subtle shift from sharp to fluid movement. We developed a precise, organic design language in which two seemingly opposing values change surface form and create flow. This high dynamic range emphasizes the contrast between fluidity and sharpness like never before.
The front face, known as the Hammerhead, is created by a 3D architecture of interlocking shapes and bold lighting signatures. The front grille opening is smaller, the headlights are slimmer, and the design is more high-tech, giving the impression of a shark-like, sharply thrusting, ready to charge forward. The interlocking theme throughout the diamond-cut body also creates two shapes that emphasize the car’s presence.
In addition, the large-diameter wheels and short overhangs give the car a better stance from all angles, enhancing its sportiness.Meanwhile, the interior is said to be more spacious and user-friendly.The C-HR Prologue’s body colors are Metal Silver and Recycled Carbon Black, with the introduction of a third color accent, Sulphur Color. This distinguished three-color option was envisioned from the very beginning of the project. The C-HR prologue development in Europe was created at ED2, Toyota’s European Design Development Center in the south of France, the creative hub that created the current Toyota C-HR.
Lance Scott, Design Director of Toyota’s European Design Development, explains, “”Our mission is to create a car that is as good as it gets, and as good as it gets. Our mission was to dig deeper than ever before into the C-HR. We are really looking forward to bringing you the new Toyota C-HR.Toyota is committed to achieving carbon neutrality and offering a wide range of electrification options in the largest and most competitive segment of the European automotive market. Therefore, the new C-HR strengthens the lineup of Toyota’s electrification strategy, which includes a hybrid vehicle as well as a plug-in hybrid vehicle that uses batteries assembled in Europe.
[Toyota Aqua new test drive] The reason why “Note” is popular even in Korona-ka .
“Toyota Aqua New Model Test Ride] Reason for its popularity even with the Corona disaster that pushed away the “”Note””…Yoichiro
Toyota “”Aqua”” registered an average of approximately 8,100 units per month from January to March 2022, despite the Corona disaster. Since the Yaris (excluding the Yaris Cross and GR Yaris), Nissan’s Note, and Nissan’s Note Aura are approximately 6,200, 7,100, and 4,200 units respectively, the Aqua is selling well despite being a hybrid-only vehicle.
The reason for Aqua’s growing popularity is that it offers a variety of excellent features, design, and comfort at a reasonable price.
The quality of the instrument panel area is higher than that of the Yaris. In the best-selling grades, the front passenger seat in the Aqua is covered with cloth and has stitching. Storage facilities have also been enhanced with an upper box mounted above the glove box.
There is also ample interior space. The wheelbase (distance between the front and rear wheels) is 2600 mm long, and when four adults of 170 cm in height are seated in the rear seats, the space between the knees of rear seat passengers is less than two knobs. Although a compact car with an overall height of less than 1550mm, which makes it easy to use multi-level parking lots, the Yaris is comfortable for four passengers. The Yaris, which shares the same platform, has a little less than one kneecap of space at the knee, making it cramped for four passengers, but the Aqua can be used as a family car.
The hybrid, based on an inline 3-cylinder 1.5-liter engine, accelerates more powerfully than the Yaris Hybrid, partly due to the use of bipolar nickel-metal hydride batteries in the best-selling grades. The Aqua’s longer wheelbase gives it a gentler steering feel than the Yaris, but its driving stability and ride comfort are superior.
The Aqua is also less expensive. The Z model is priced at 2.4 million yen, which is 76,000 yen more than the Yaris Hybrid Z. However, it comes standard with aluminum wheels and a 100V, 1500W power outlet. If these two features are installed as options on the Yaris Hybrid Z, they add 126,500 yen to the price, making the Aqua Z approximately 50,000 yen cheaper in total.
In this way, the Aqua has become a popular car because it offers a wide range of features and is relatively inexpensive.
