    Subaru fully remodeled the Crosstrek (former Japanese model name: Subaru XV) and unveiled the Japanese prototype for the world premiere on September 15, 2022. The previous model, the third generation, went on sale on May 24, 2017, making this a full model change in six full years. This time, the author is considering purchasing a “Crosstrek” and has compiled a detailed list of the points that he found disappointing in his various investigations.     Subaru new Crosstrek (XV): What I find disappointing
    I have summarized the points that I am dissatisfied with after actually considering the purchase and doing a lot of research.

    Full LCD meters are not adopted.
    The “digital cockpit 12.3-inch full LCD meters” used in the “Levorg” and “Outback” are not adopted. Subaru may want to use it in its high-end models, but the “11.6-inch full HD large screen display” is installed in the “Levog” and “Outback. However, since the Subaru CX-5 is equipped with an 11.6-inch full-HD large-screen display, we would have liked to see Subaru offer a 12.3-inch full-LCD meter as an option or a higher grade model equipped with such a meter as well.

    EyeSight X is not equipped
    The Crosstrek adopts the next-generation EyeSight system and uses a triple camera (stereo camera unit + wide-angle monocular camera). While it significantly improves safety performance, it does not adopt the “EyeSight X,” an advanced driving assist technology that is mounted on the Levorg. It is regrettable, although we would have liked all models to adopt the same level of safety equipment.

    Smart Rear View Camera not adopted
    The Smart Rear View Camera (a function that projects a rearward camera image onto the room mirror) was not adopted. Recently, other companies such as Toyota have adopted this feature regardless of the model (Yaris, Aqua, Yaris Cross, etc.), and I think it should be adopted in all models in terms of ensuring safety.

    Auto Vehicle Hold is troublesome because there is no physical button.
    Auto Vehicle Hold” (or “Brake Hold” in Toyota) is operated by turning it on from the display, not by a physical button. This is troublesome. Every time you start the engine again, it turns off, so you have to set it to turn on every so often.

    If there is no physical button, I would like to see a memory function installed to reduce the number of times it is turned on and off.

    Rear seats are not 4:2:4 split-folding
    This is used in the “Levorg.” Only the middle rear seat can be folded down to accommodate four passengers when loading long items (skis, snowboard boards, etc.). The Crosstrek is likely to be chosen by people who understand the excellence of Subaru’s AWD and go to the snowy mountains, etc. Therefore, to make it unique as a compact SUV, the 4:2:4 split-folding seat arrangement should be adopted to improve usability.

    Some may think that it is meaningless because the cargo space is not as long as that of the Levorg, but recently, short ski boards have become the norm, and a snowboard should be no problem.

    The new Crosstrek (XV), now in its fourth generation, adopts the next-generation platform “SUBARU GLOBAL PLATFORM (SGP). The ride quality greatly surpasses that of its predecessor. The ride quality is very superior to that of the previous generation, and is very good for a domestic car. It is equipped with “11.6 inch Full HD large screen display”, and this advanced feature is excellent that no other company has. Furthermore, it is equipped with the next generation “EyeSight” system. This is also great because it is one of the best safety equipment. However, it is regrettable that the “Crosstrek (XV)” is not equipped with all the advanced technologies as it is a low-ranked SUV among Subaru models. Of course, one of the reasons is that the price is set in consideration of the price.     About the All-New Subaru Crosstrek Full Model Change
    As the successor to the Subaru XV, the new “CROSSTREK” has been globally unified as the “CROSSTREK”.     Interior Design
    The instrument panel design is simple yet expressive, with a multi-layered, multi-material structure that makes the most of the textures of each material. The center console’s upper surface has been raised to express a sense of envelopment and quality, and its operability has been improved. In addition, the interior is designed to be user-friendly, with a full range of storage space. The higher grade comes with fabric (silver stitching). The standard grade has tricot (silver stitching). The new stereo camera unit significantly increases the angle of view to approximately twice that of the previous model. The image recognition software and control software have been improved to enable recognition of a wider and more distant range. In addition to the windshield-mounted type, a lens hood was adopted to prevent accidental contact with the lens. A wide-angle monocular camera (a first in the Subaru Japanese market) is newly adopted to recognize motorcycles/pedestrians at a wider angle than the new stereo camera when driving at low speeds.
