A super car depending on the angle you look at it! The cool and evolved new Toyota Prius, the car you want?
The new Prius just got a whole lot cooler!
Toyota has unveiled the new Prius for the first time in the world on November 16, 2022.
The new Prius, now in its fifth generation, has evolved into a sleek silhouette that resembles a sports coupe. Inheriting the mono-form silhouette, the new Prius will be revamped with a wide and low stance and large-diameter (19-inch) tires to create a stylish design that will resonate with the senses.
Finally, the center meter has been abolished! The sporty new Prius is just too cool!
The new Toyota Prius, redesigned to look like a sports car.
In addition to the existing 1.8-liter hybrid, a 2-liter hybrid powertrain is available. In addition, Toyota’s first 2-liter plug-in hybrid is also available, with a maximum system output of 164 kW (223 hp) and powerful dynamic performance, boasting specifications that rival sports cars.
We conducted a survey on the new Prius to find out what SNS users thought of the new Prius.
What do you think of the design of the new Prius? 41.8% of respondents answered “”Very good,”” 34.5% answered “”Fairly good,”” 10.9% answered “”Not so good,”” and 12.7% answered “”Not good at all,”” indicating that two-thirds of the respondents had a favorable impression.
Respondents who felt it was good seemed to appreciate the sporty and advanced design, with comments such as “”looks like a sports car or coupe,”” “”honestly cool,”” “”more future-oriented design,”” and “”a design that can compete overseas.
Some respondents compared it to the new Crown Crossover, which has undergone a full model change and become a coupe SUV, saying that “”the design is more complete and better than the new Crown”” and “”it is a child of the Crown Crossover””.
Others said, “”It has become a Prius I would like to buy,”” and “”It has supercar-like elements that I prefer from certain angles.
On the other hand, others commented, “”It looks cool, but the large width and low height give the impression that it is no longer a car for daily use,”” and “”It looks very sporty with a massive feel, but I don’t like the tail design.
The body size of the new Prius is 4600 mm (overall length) x 1780 mm (overall width) x 1430 mm (overall height). The overall length and width are 25 mm and 20 mm longer, respectively, than the previous model, while the height is 40 mm lower. It adopts a low and wide style.
Although the lower overall height has resulted in a slightly lower interior height, the hip point has been lowered to create a less oppressive interior.
In addition, the rear design features a large “”PRIUS”” logo under the thin, horizontal taillights. The rear view, which emphasizes the Prius identity, may be said to be a design for different tastes.
When asked, “”What do you expect from the new Prius?”” (multiple answers), the most common answer was “”1.8-liter/2-liter hybrid and 2-liter PHEV”” (43.6%), followed by “”Stylish exterior design”” (38.2%), “”Interior design that combines driving excitement and high quality”” (35.6%), and “”Latest advanced safety and driving support system”” (35.6%). the latest advanced safety and driving support systems”” (30.8%).
The interior of the new Prius features a cockpit that allows drivers to concentrate on driving, as the “”center meter”” used in past models has been eliminated, the meter has been moved to the front of the driver’s seat, and the small stick-shaped shift lever has been changed to a shape used in many recent Toyota vehicles.
The Prius is driven by drivers of all ages, so a driver’s seat with a universal design, rather than an eccentric one, may be what is required.

“25 years have passed since the debut of the “”Zani-Shift””! Tracing the History of the “”Shift Lever”” Evolved by Successive Models of the Eco-Car “”Prius
The “”Prius Shift,”” synonymous with electric shifting, has also had a history of change
It will soon be 25 years since the debut of the first-generation Prius, the pioneer of mass-produced hybrid cars, in December 1997. On November 16, 2022, Toyota fully remodeled the Prius for the first time in approximately seven years.
In the history of the Prius, which spans five generations, we will trace the history of the Prius, with a focus on its particularly distinctive “”shift lever.
“”Prius Shift”” was different in the past! See 72 photos of successive generations of the Prius.
The Electro Shiftmatic, a joystick-like electronically controlled shift that is often referred to as the “”Prius Shift”” .
In December 1997, the first-generation Prius debuted as the world’s first mass-produced hybrid car with the catchphrase, “”Just in time for the 21st century.
The Toyota Hybrid System (THS), a series-parallel hybrid system combining a 1.5-liter engine, electric motor, and nickel-metal hydride battery, achieved a catalog fuel economy of 28 km/L (10-15 mode fuel economy), approximately twice that of a gasoline vehicle in the same class at the time. The THS hybrid system achieved fuel economy of 28 km/L (10-15 mode fuel economy), approximately twice that of a gasoline vehicle in the same class at the time, and became a major topic of conversation around the world.
The first-generation Prius 4-door sedan body was compact, measuring 4275 mm (overall length) x 1695 mm (overall width), but the height was increased to 1490 mm (overall height) and the front and rear sections of the body were shortened to ensure a wide interior space.
Like the exterior, the interior layout was designed with the next generation in mind.
Digital meters and a 5.8-inch display were placed in the center of the instrument panel. The shift lever is a unique column-shift type that extends from the top of the instrument panel.
In addition, the center console has been eliminated and the parking brake has been changed to a foot-operated type to provide more leg room and facilitate a walk-through (side walk-through) from the left and right front seats.
The side walk-through function is common in minivans and minicars, but its adoption in a compact sedan was rare at the time.
The second-generation Prius followed in September 2003. The body style was changed to a 5-door hatchback that combined aerodynamic characteristics with interior space to improve fuel economy.
Since then, this silhouette has been inherited by successive generations of models up to the current model as a symbol of “”Prius-ness.
The body size was increased to 4445 mm (overall length) x 1725 mm (overall width) x 1490 mm (overall height). The hybrid system has also been renewed and evolved into THS II.
The THS II system combined low fuel consumption and emissions with powerful driving performance, achieving the world’s best fuel economy at the time, 35.5 km/L (10-15 mode fuel economy).
The interior is as advanced as the exterior. The center meter is positioned farther away for better visibility, while the controls are laid out in a way that makes them easy to use at hand.
This cockpit concept of “”display at a distance and operation at hand”” is one of the characteristics of the Prius that has been carried over to later models.
As part of this concept, the “”Electro-Shiftmatic,”” a joystick-like electronically controlled gearshift, was adopted.
Because it switches electrically, the shift lever is operated lightly using only the fingertips, and as an unprecedented and innovative shift lever, it symbolizes the advanced nature of the Prius.
The compact Electroshiftmatic on the instrument panel was carried over to the 3rd and 4th generation Prius, and was later referred to as the “”Prius Shift.
The Electro-Shiftmatic was later also used in the 3rd and 4th generation Prius.
The fifth-generation new Prius, which was unveiled in November, has a low, sporty form, which is a major change.
The instrument panel of the new model adopts the “”Island Architecture”” concept.
This is based on the concept of clearly separating (zoning) the background and functions (island) visually by concentrating panels and other functional controls on an island-shaped surface.
The floating instrument panel, which appears to float above the island, and the “”surround tabs”” that continuously surround the instrument panel from the door panels, are composed of a low, recessed floating instrument panel that reduces the sense of oppression from the low front window and low vehicle height.
The shift lever has been moved to the orthodox center console, in part because of the low, reclined seat position.
The shift lever and other controls are now located in a more natural and convenient position for the driver to reach, based on the island architecture concept described above.
The new Prius also uses an electric gearshift that is light and easy to operate, but the length of the shift lever has been extended to a more conventional shape, so it does not look as “”futuristic”” as in the past.

This time, we created a comparison chart between the “HARRIER PHEV” and the “RAV4 PHV,” both of which are “SUVs” and “PHEVs. The “Harrier PHEV” is longer in overall length, but it is almost the same size class. 0-100km/h acceleration is the fastest of the two models. It is faster than Porsche’s normal Cayenne SUV and normal Macan. The RAV4 PHV has a slight edge in WLTC mode fuel economy and EV driving range. Finally, in terms of price, the RAV4 PHV is cheaper by 810,000 to 1,510,000 yen. Although the RAV4 PHV has the advantage in terms of cost performance, the difference between the two premium models may not seem so great considering the difference in interior quality and other factors.

Subaru New Crosstrek (XV) VS Honda New Vezel Thorough Comparison

The new Subaru Crosstrek (XV) vs. the new Honda Vezel – In-depth comparison
Comparison of competing models.
Subaru fully remodeled the Crosstrek (former Japanese model name: Subaru XV) and unveiled the Japanese prototype for the first time in the world on September 15, 2022, which will be launched in 2023. Honda fully remodeled the new “Vezel” and announced on April 22, 2021 and released on April 23, 2021. We compared the competition based on the specifications of the competing models.
About the specifications of the new Subaru Crosstrek
As the successor to the “SUBARU XV,” the Subaru “CROSSTREK” name has been unified globally. The new “CROSSTREK” SUV further accentuates the distinctive design of the previous model and has a more refined dynamic quality. In addition to the new-generation EyeSight system, a wide-angle monocular camera has been adopted for the first time in a Japanese version to achieve high safety performance. The collision safety potential of the Subaru Global Platform, which has been highly acclaimed in previous models, has been further enhanced by incorporating the latest knowledge and technologies, such as a full inner frame structure, expanded application of structural adhesives, and increased rigidity of suspension attachment points. For frontal collisions, a collision sub-frame has been added that extends the bumper beam to the outside of the vehicle. In a collision against a vehicle, not only the collision safety of the own vehicle but also the performance to protect the occupants on the other side (compatibility) has been improved. As with the Legacy Outback, a new frontal collision test, MPDB (Mobile Progressive Deformable Barrier), has been introduced to evaluate compatibility based on the assumption of an actual frontal collision. The Subaru STARLINK, a connected function not found on the previous generation XV, is adopted.
Exterior Design
The high hood position gives a sense of thickness and expresses muscularity. Sharp front grille bars and LED headlamps give the front mask a nimble and intrepid image. Full LED high and low beam lamps and LED cornering lamps are adopted for the first time on a Subaru. 18-inch alloy wheels are adopted on the high-end grades. A total of nine exterior colors are available, including the new Offshore Blue Metallic and Oasis Blue.
Interior Design
The instrument panel design is simple yet expressive, with a multi-layered, multi-material structure that makes the most of the textures of each material. The center console’s upper surface has been raised to express a sense of envelopment and quality, and its operability has been improved. In addition, the interior is designed to be user-friendly, with a full range of storage space. The higher grade comes with fabric (silver stitching). The standard grade has tricot (silver stitching). Leather seats are available as a factory-installed option. A new 11.6-inch center information display with a large screen has been adopted to greatly enhance smartphone connectivity. Subaru’s first “Digital Multi-View Monitor” that synthesizes images from four cameras and displays a 360° view of the vehicle’s surroundings.
Adoption of new-generation EyeSight
Triple camera (stereo camera unit + wide-angle monocular camera) is adopted for improved performance. The new stereo camera unit significantly increases the angle of view to approximately twice that of the previous model. The image recognition software and control software have been improved to enable recognition of a wider and more distant range. In addition to the windshield-mounted type, a lens hood was adopted to prevent accidental contact with the lens. A wide-angle monocular camera (a first in the Subaru Japanese market) is newly adopted to recognize motorcycles/pedestrians at a wider angle than the new stereo camera when driving at low speeds. It expands the situations that can be handled by the pre-crash brake and achieves the best performance as the previous generation EyeSight.

Subaru Fully Remodels the XV as the All-New “Crosstrek” Announced for September 15, 2022
Subaru unveiled the Japan-specification prototype of the all-new CROSSTREK for the first time in the world on September 15, 2022. The new model, the third generation of the CROSSTREK, will feature the “CROSSTREK” which has been used in different markets…
About the specifications of the all-new “Vezel
The fully redesigned “Vezel” is based on the fourth-generation “Fit” and inherits its predecessor’s “center tank layout” based on Honda’s unique M-M concept. While maintaining the compact body size, easy handling, and versatile seating arrangements, the exterior proportions have evolved to be more powerful and beautiful. The headlights feature “LED sequential turn lamps (flowing indicators). Honda Sensing” is standard equipment on all models. As can be seen in the photo, the rear of the car has a sleek coupe form. The overall length, width, and height are 4,340 mm, 1,790 mm, and 1,590 mm, respectively, and the wheelbase is 2,610 mm, making it a 3-number size SUV.
The VEZEL features a panorama roof (with Low-E glass), a liberating sunroof, two-tone exterior colors, tricolor decorations, and a hands-free access power tailgate with a reserved-close function.
The interior panels have a horizontal, linear design based on the HMI (human-machine interface) concept, which reduces eye movement, arranges controls along the line of flow, and improves visibility. The instrument cluster is the same 4.2-inch or 7.0-inch instrument cluster used in the new Accord, Insight, and other models. The interior front seats feature new-generation “body stabilizing seats” newly developed for installation in high-end sedans, which provide soft and comfortable seating that reduces fatigue even after long hours of driving, and an “auto brake hold” function that allows the driver to take his or her foot off the brake pedal while the vehicle is stopped. The “Auto Brake Hold” function allows the driver to take his/her foot off the pedal while the vehicle is stopped and release the brake pedal when the accelerator pedal is depressed, making it useful in traffic jams and other situations. The “telescopic and tilt steering mechanism” allows drivers of all sizes to drive in the best position. The “parking brake system” is adopted. The center display features the “9-inch Honda CONNECT Honda Display. It is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Honda CONNECT,” an in-vehicle communication module exclusively for Honda vehicles, is installed. It features “Honda Digital Key” that substitutes a smartphone for a key, “Honda App Center” and “In-car Wi-Fi” that allows users to purchase data communication capacity in the car and enjoy connecting to the Internet.
The 1.5L i-VTEC engine + “i-MMD (e:HEV)” of the two-motor hybrid system is adopted, which achieves WLTC mode fuel economy of 24.8km/L. The “e:HEV” offers a choice of three different driving modes: NORMAL, SPORT, and ECON. In addition, different degrees of deceleration can be selected when the accelerator is turned off in the D-range, B-range, and deceleration selector.

The new Vezel is equipped with a hybrid system (e:HEV) and has excellent fuel economy of 24.8km/L under the WLTC mode, while the new Crosstrek has a fuel economy of 15.0km/L under the WLTC mode. In terms of price, the Vesel is cheaper to start. The design is hard to say, as there are different likes and dislikes, but it seems certain that the Crosstrek will become a rival model of the Vezel.
Subaru New Crosstrek (XV) Summary of disappointing points .

The New Subaru Crosstrek (XV): A Summary of the Points We Regret
Subaru fully remodeled the Crosstrek (former Japanese model name: Subaru XV) and unveiled the Japanese prototype for the world premiere on September 15, 2022. The previous model, the third generation, went on sale on May 24, 2017, making this a full model change in six full years. This time, the author is considering purchasing a “Crosstrek” and has compiled a detailed list of the points that he found disappointing in his various investigations. We hope you will find this information useful when making your purchase.
Subaru new Crosstrek (XV): What I find disappointing
I have summarized the points that I am dissatisfied with after actually considering the purchase and doing a lot of research.
Full LCD meters are not adopted.
The “digital cockpit 12.3-inch full LCD meters” used in the “Levorg” and “Outback” are not adopted. Subaru may want to use it in its high-end models, but the “11.6-inch full HD large screen display” is installed in the “Levog” and “Outback. However, since the Subaru CX-5 is equipped with an 11.6-inch full-HD large-screen display, we would have liked to see Subaru offer a 12.3-inch full-LCD meter as an option or a higher grade model equipped with such a meter as well.
EyeSight X is not equipped
The Crosstrek adopts the next-generation EyeSight system and uses a triple camera (stereo camera unit + wide-angle monocular camera). While it significantly improves safety performance, it does not adopt the “EyeSight X,” an advanced driving assist technology that is mounted on the Levorg. It is regrettable, although we would have liked all models to adopt the same level of safety equipment.
We hope that the “EyeSight X” advanced driving assist technology will be adopted in the future as an option.
Smart Rear View Camera not adopted
The Smart Rear View Camera (a function that projects a rearward camera image onto the room mirror) was not adopted. Recently, other companies such as Toyota have adopted this feature regardless of the model (Yaris, Aqua, Yaris Cross, etc.), and I think it should be adopted in all models in terms of ensuring safety.
Auto Vehicle Hold is troublesome because there is no physical button.
Auto Vehicle Hold” (or “Brake Hold” in Toyota) is operated by turning it on from the display, not by a physical button. This is troublesome. Every time you start the engine again, it turns off, so you have to set it to turn on every so often.
If there is no physical button, I would like to see a memory function installed to reduce the number of times it is turned on and off.
Rear seats are not 4:2:4 split-folding
This is used in the “Levorg.” Only the middle rear seat can be folded down to accommodate four passengers when loading long items (skis, snowboard boards, etc.). The Crosstrek is likely to be chosen by people who understand the excellence of Subaru’s AWD and go to the snowy mountains, etc. Therefore, to make it unique as a compact SUV, the 4:2:4 split-folding seat arrangement should be adopted to improve usability.
Some may think that it is meaningless because the cargo space is not as long as that of the Levorg, but recently, short ski boards have become the norm, and a snowboard should be no problem.
The new Crosstrek (XV), now in its fourth generation, adopts the next-generation platform “SUBARU GLOBAL PLATFORM (SGP). The ride quality greatly surpasses that of its predecessor. The ride quality is very superior to that of the previous generation, and is very good for a domestic car. It is equipped with “11.6 inch Full HD large screen display”, and this advanced feature is excellent that no other company has. Furthermore, it is equipped with the next generation “EyeSight” system. This is also great because it is one of the best safety equipment. However, it is regrettable that the “Crosstrek (XV)” is not equipped with all the advanced technologies as it is a low-ranked SUV among Subaru models. Of course, one of the reasons is that the price is set in consideration of the price. However, there is a possibility that some improvements will be made in future annual improvements and minor changes, as it is possible to make improvements.

About the All-New Subaru Crosstrek Full Model Change
As the successor to the Subaru XV, the new “CROSSTREK” has been globally unified as the “CROSSTREK”. The new “CROSSTREK” SUV further accentuates the distinctive design of the previous model, and has a more refined dynamic quality feel. In addition to the new-generation EyeSight system, the CROSSTREK is the first Japanese version to adopt a wide-angle monocular camera, offering a high level of safety performance. The collision safety potential of the Subaru Global Platform, which has been highly acclaimed in the previous model, has been further enhanced by incorporating the latest knowledge and technologies, such as a full inner frame structure, expanded application of structural adhesives, and increased rigidity of the suspension mounting area.

About Honda new CR-V full model change 2023
The exterior of the new CR-V is sportier and more refined, previewing the SUV’s front end and overhauled headlights with LED daytime running lights. It features a more prominent, larger grille. At least on this hybrid trim, the lower air intakes have silver shrouds and are finished in black. The shape and curve of the front fascia is also quite different from the previous model. At the rear, the L-shaped taillights that extend the D-pillar remain, but are more refined and sport a revised LED signature. Other parts of the eye-catching new CR-V include faux silver tailpipes and various tailgates. Overall length, width, and height are 4,694 mm, 1,864 mm, and 1,681 mm, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm.

Is there a Japanese model?
No Japanese model has been announced as of now. In fact, the current CR-V model was launched in the North American market in October 2016, followed by sales in China, Southeast Asia, South America, and Russia from time to time. In Japan, the CR-V was discontinued, so it went on sale on August 31, 2018, about two years late, and the timing is now four years old. Cycle-wise, the Japanese market is likely to see a one to two year delay in the launch of this new CR-V, but the CR-V is well-made this time around, so we hope for a full model change at the earliest possible time.
